Rocky View County: rules and official contacts

  • County wastewater service covers Bragg Creek, Cochrane Lake, Elbow Valley, East and West Balzac, Goldwyn, Conrich/Cambridge/Prince of Peace, Langdon, Pinebrook and Watermark. Everywhere else is on private septic, and the county requires every private sewage system to be installed by a certified installer. Rocky View County: Wastewater
  • The county doesn't plow private driveways, except medical-access plowing for eligible rural residents who apply with a physician's letter (renewed yearly) and a signed indemnity agreement. That service is billed at cost-recovery rates. Clearing windrows across your driveway is up to you. Rocky View County: Snow and Ice Control
  • New or upgraded approaches onto county roads need permission through a Road Approach Application (roadapproach@rockyview.ca), and the county inspects each one before and after construction. A driveway on your own land generally doesn't need county approval. Rocky View County: Driveways and Approaches
  • Open burning needs a free fire permit year-round. Permits are suspended during fire bans and advisories, give you a 5-day window, and burning without one can bring a $1,000 fine. Rocky View County: Fire Permits
  • Weed inspectors check land every growing season. Roadside spraying runs on a three-year rotation, and landowners can opt out by taking over ditch weed control themselves. Agricultural Services: 403-230-1401. Rocky View County: Weed Control
  • AHS water sample bottles: Cochrane Community Health Centre and Airdrie Community Health Centre. Check the AHS listing or call the centre for current drop-off days and times before you sample. AHS: Cochrane Community Health Centre water samples
