Sturgeon County: rules and official contacts

  • Installing or replacing a septic tank needs a private sewage permit (private disposal) or a plumbing permit (when the tank connects to the county's low-pressure system). The property owner is responsible for the permits unless the contractor arranged them. Safety Codes Administrator: 780-939-8276. Sturgeon County: Low-Pressure Sewer Systems and permits
  • Low-pressure sewer owners must have their own two-stage septic tank. The county recommends annual inspection and servicing of the pump, and says a tank is usually vacuumed about every two years. Sturgeon County: Low-Pressure Sewer Systems and permits
  • The county will plow or grade a private driveway at full cost recovery, only after all county roads are open, with a signed Snowplow and Grading Agreement; call Transportation & Engineering Services at 780-939-8252. The 2026 fee is $110 per request. The county doesn't clear windrows across approaches. Sturgeon County: Winter Operation Sturgeon County: 2026 Fees and Charges Bylaw (PDF)
  • Garden and yard debris fires need a 30-day fire permit, year-round, for piles under 12 x 12 x 6 feet. Larger brush and windrow piles are generally permitted from December 1 to March 31 and may need a site inspection. An attended fire in an approved fire pit needs no permit, and you shouldn't burn when winds gust over 15 km/h. Sturgeon County: Responsible Burning & Fire Permits
  • AHS water sample bottles for private wells: find the nearest pick-up and drop-off location on the AHS listing, and check the centre's current drop-off days and times before you sample. AHS: Water sample bottle pick-up and drop-off locations
